Teaching at the Oredocker Project School
How will charter staff be organized?
Charter faculty will be organized as a teacher led school to manage the day to day operations of the school. They will work as a team to organize the curriculum and schedule for the school. One of the charter faculty will be designated as the lead teacher and provided the time to plan and coordinate teacher meetings, manage the budget, consult with the AMS Building Principal and District Office, and serve as a representative on the Charter School Council. Other management duties will be shared among the faculty as determined by their interest and expertise.
Is a teaching license required?
All teachers must be certified and licensed by the State of Wisconsin. A charter school teaching license is available for teachers who teach in a charter school outside of their licensed area.
How will teachers be evaluated?
During the planning year the District Office, AMS Principal, Charter Council and Charter Faculty will develop a plan to evaluate charter school faculty. This plan will be included in the performance contract.
How will applying to teach at the charter school affect my ability to teach in the other district schools?
The School Board clarified that the Charter Council may not add positions to the school district nor can it create a layoff of district positions. Therefore, the initial group of charter school teachers will come from the ranks of the current district faculty. Because the charter school is an instrumentality of the district teachers may apply for any posted position in the district for which they are qualified according to the procedures outlined in district policy. If the charter school closes teachers will be reassigned to open district positions.
When will teachers be hired?
Teachers have been hired for 2014. Check the School District of Ashland website for current openings.
What kind of training will teachers receive?
Training for teachers is a main part of the charter grant budget. The first 2 years of the grant provide additional dollars to continue this work and ensure that teachers have the tools they need to make the school successful.
